Nana Mizuki, T.M. Revolution to Duet Again on New Year's Eve

posted on by Karen Ressler
Yōkai Watch, Frozen also featured in special performances

Japanese television station NTV posted its song lineup for Kōhaku Uta Gassen (The Red and White Song Contest), Japan's most viewed music program, on Thursday. The lineup revealed that Nana Mizuki and T.M. Revolution will again perform a duet for the contest.

Kōhaku Uta Gassen has aired every New Year's Eve on NHK since 1951, and it features two teams of the leading musicians in Japan that year, duking it out by song. These teams, the eponymous "Red" and "White" Teams, are largely determined by gender (women join the Red Team, men join the White Team). Last year, Mizuki and T.M. Revolution performed one of the first two male-female duets in the program's history. The other pair to perform a duet was idol Seiko Matsuda and American pop singer Chris Hart.

At last year's event, Mizuki and T.M. Revolution performed "Kakumei 2013 - Kōhaku Special Collaboration," a medley of "Preserved Roses" and "Kakumei Dualism," the two songs the pair performed as the opening themes to Valvrave the Liberator. Their specific song or songs for this year has not yet been announced; for now, NHK lists their number as "Kōhaku 2014 Special Collaboration."

Other special performances at the contest include an "Arashi meets Yōkai Watch" collaboration performance featuring the boy band Arashi and characters from Yōkai Watch, a performance by Ayaka of a song from Hanako to Anne, and "Minna de Utaou! Ana to Yuki no Joō" (Everyone let's sing! Frozen where Sayaka Kanda and Idina Menzel, the Japanese voice of Anna and American voice of Elsa from Disney's Frozen, will lead the other singers in a performance. (May J. will also give a solo performance of "ari no Mama de," the Japanese version of "Let It Go" from Frozen.)
