Sentai Filmworks announced on Thursday that it cast professional cosplayer Jessica Nigri as Sonico in its SoniAni: Super Sonico the Animation English dub.

Nigri commented on her enthusiasm for the role: “I always felt a connection with Sonico. She's just got such a positive and genuine spirit about her that when they asked me about playing the part, I squealed with joy! It's like my dream was finally coming true. Being here with my Sentai family has been surreal.”

Nigri previously voiced Cinder Fall in seven episodes of the RWBY animated series.

In the series, Super Sonico is an 18-year-old girl who keeps busy as a college student, a part-time photoshoot model, and a musician. She even works at her grandmother's bar.

"Super Sonico," the mascot girl of the "Nitro Super Sonic" events held by Nitroplus, is credited with playing herself in the Japanese version and performing the opening theme song "Beat goes on!"

The Super Sonico character already inspired her own line of games, as well as figures including a giant 1/2-scale statue. Super Sonico is also appearing in Namco Bandai Games' Super Heroine Chronicle for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita systems and even in a promotion for THQ's Saints Row: The Third game.

Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime last year and plans to release it on home video. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. Sentai Filmworks will release the series on Blu-ray and DVD on May 26.
