Sion Sono Returns to Direct Shinjuku Swan Sequel

A sequel to the live-action film of Ken Wakui's Shinjuku Swan manga has been green-lit. Filming on the tentatively titled Shinjuku Swan 2 began on January 27 and will continue for two months, including filming in Kanagawa and Yokohama in early March.
Returning from the first film are:
- Gō Ayano (Gatchaman) as Tatsuhiko Shiratori
- Yusuke Iseya (Casshern) as Mako
- Nobuaki Kaneko (Crows Zero II) as Yutaka Hayama
- Motoki Fukami (Crows Zero) as Gensuke Seki
- Jun Murakami (Michiko & Hatchin) as Tokimasa
- Kōsuke Toyohara (Densha Otoko) as Jin Yamashiro
Also returning is director Sion Sono (Suicide Club), and the first film's co-writer Mataichirō Yamamoto is penning the second film. Joining the staff this time is action director Kenji Tanigaki (Rurouni Kenshin). The second film features a new set for the Burst agency that is three times bigger than the first one. The film is casting extras for 200 cabaret club girls.
The manga follows Tatsuhiko Shiratori, a 19-year-old with no money or job in the (in)famous Kabukichō red-light district of Tokyo's Shinjuku ward. Then one day, a man named Mako recruits him to become a scout. Tatsuhiko's job has him finding new talent for clubs, adult videos, and other areas of Kabukichō's night life. Tatsuhiko has taken his first step into the cutthroat business of Tokyo's underworld.
Wakui launched the manga in Young Magazine in 2005, and Kodansha published the 38th volume in December 2013. The manga previously inspired a six-episode live-action television series in 2007. In that version, Yōsuke Kawamura played Tatsuhiko.
