DVD bundled with 8th manga volume on February 7

A special edition of Akira Hiyoshimaru's eighth First Love Monster (Hatsukoi Monster) manga volume will bundle a new original anime DVD on February 7, 2017. The DVD will include an "episode 13" that is not being aired as part of the ongoing television anime adaptation. The episode will feature the new characters Shigeru R. Yamaguchi (as voiced by Tomoaki Maeno), Ikoka Kaneko (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka), Namiko Kaneko (Satsuki Yukino), and others.

Yen Press is publishing the manga in North America, and it describes the series.

When fifteen-year-old Kaho Nikaidou leaves her sheltered home to start life anew in a Tokyo high school dormitory, the last thing she expects is to nearly get hit by a truck! Saved in the nick of time by a handsome stranger, Kaho falls head over heels for him and, after finally tracking him down, boldly confesses her feelings. Turns out Kaho's mystery savior, Kanade, is the son of Kaho's new landlord! The handsome object of Kaho's affection agrees to go out with her, but her newfound bliss is short-lived when it turns out that her new boyfriend...is a fifth-grader?!

Hiyoshimaru launched First Love Monster in Kodansha's Aria magazine in March 2013, and Kodansha shipped the seventh compiled volume (shown left) in July. A limited edition of the seventh volume came with a pop-a-point eraser, illustrated by Hiyoshimaru. Yen Press shipped the manga's fourth volume on April 19.

The manga is inspiring a television anime that premiered on July 2, and Funimation is streaming the series with English subtitles, as well as with an English broadcast dub. In addition, a stage play adaptation has been green-lit.
