Takara Tomy Announces Zoids Field of Rebellion MOBA Game for Smartphones

Eighting develops game featuring new characters with designs by HIRONOX

Takara Tomy announced on Thursday that video game development company Eighting is developing a smartphone game for the Zoids franchise titled Zoids Field of Rebellion. The game will arrive this winter, and will be free to play, with in-game items costing extra.

The game's official website is taking pre-registration for both the iOS and Android versions of the game, and is recruiting 5,000 players to participate in a closed beta test. The beta test will start in early November.

The game is a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game that will use the previously revealed "ZOIDS concept art" as a base for the worldview of the game in an original setting. HIRONOX is designing the original characters of the game (name romanizations aren't official).

The company ANIMAREAL is also producing "super realistic concept visuals" for the game. The company released visuals for the characters Vance and Trinity (below) and will reveal more visuals leading up to the game's release.

The more people who preregister for the game, the more "ZOIDS Gold" in-game currency preregistered players will receive when the game launches. Takara Tomy has also released several screenshots for the game (below).

Takara Tomy had launched a teaser website last month for a new project in the franchise, which then updated on October 7 to feature two more visuals.

Tomy launched the Zoids science-fiction mecha franchise as a model kit line in 1983. Michiro Ueyama drew a 14-volume manga series for the franchise in 1999-2001 that Viz Media released in English under the title ZOIDS: Chaotic Century in 2002-2003. The manga inspired the ZOIDS: Chaotic Century TV anime series that aired in 1999-2000 and Viz Media released on home video. Three more anime series followed: Zoids/ZERO in 2001, Zoids: Fuzors in 2003-2004, and Zoids Genesis in 2005-2006. Cartoon Network aired ZOIDS: Chaotic Century, Zoids/ZERO, and part of Zoids: Fuzors.

The franchise has also inspired a line of video game series for consoles, handheld consoles, PC, arcades, and mobile phones.
