Tatami Galaxy Staff Return for Yoru wa Mijikashi Arukeyo Otome Anime Film

Masaaki Yuasa to direct film based on Tomihiko Morimi's novel

TOHO announced on Thursday that The Tatami Galaxy and The Eccentric Family author Tomihiko Morimi's Yoru wa Mijikashi Arukeyo Otome (The Night is Short, So Walk, Girl) novel will get an anime film adaptation from Masaaki Yuasa's studio Science SARU. The film will open in theaters in Japan on April 7.

The main staff of The Tatami Galaxy anime is returning for the film. Masaaki Yuasa (Kick-Heart, Ping Pong, Mind Game) will direct, and Makoto Ueda is writing the script. Yūsuke Nakamura, the cover artist for the original novel as well as Tatami Galaxy, is designing the characters. Michiru Oshima is composing the music, and Asian Kung-Fu Generation (The Tatami Galaxy, Erased) is performing the theme song.

Gen Hoshino (Saint Young Men's Buddha) will voice the main character "Sempai."

Kadokawa published the original novel in 2006, and it won the Yamamoto Shūgorō Prize and the second place Japan Booksellers' Award in 2007. The novel has more than 1.2 million copies in print. The story takes place in Kyoto, and follows an upperclassman ("Sempai") who falls in love with his underclassman ("Girl with Black Hair") and tries to get her attention.

Ranmaru Kotone drew a manga adaptation that online reading platform JManga once listed in English before it shut down in 2013.
