posted on by Andrew Osmond
Releases from Anime Limited, Nadia released in both 4K UHD and standard Blu-ray formats

On Monday November 6, Anime Limited released Gainax's science-fiction adventure anime Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water as a 4K UHD Collector's Edition (pictured right). It includes the 39-part series on five Blu-ray discs and four 4K UHD discs, as well as an A4-sized, 136-page "materials archive" book including designs, interviews, storyboards and other content.

The series screened in 1990-1991. There will also be a standard Blu-ray edition of the full series (pictured left). Sentai Filmworks previously described the story:

"The World's Fair, Paris, 1889: a young inventor crosses paths with an enigmatic girl and her pet lion. Suddenly they find themselves pursued by a villainous trio intent upon stealing the magical Blue Water. Thus begins an epic adventure inspired by Jules Verne's masterpiece 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Join Nadia and Jean as they travel the high seas in search of Nadia's homeland and her past, their only clue the mysterious jewel Nadia wears. Can they unravel the Secret of the Blue Water before it is too late? Discover Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water, the animated series beloved by millions, and find out for yourself."

The staff featured director Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion, His and Her Circumstances), character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Royal Space Force, The Wings of Honnêamise, Evangelion, Summer Wars), sound director Katsunori Shimizu (Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee, Fushigi Yugi), and musical composer Shiro Sagisu (Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Evangelion).

Anime Limited also released a Collector's Blu-ray Edition, carrying the two RE:cycle of the PENGUINDRUM films on two Blu-ray discs. These are the films based on the original 2011 Mawaru Penguindrum series, by the same director, Kunihiko Ikuhara. The set also includes a 32-page booklet. The films are described as follows:

"What would you do to save someone you love? All brothers Shoma and Kanba know is that, after collapsing in an aquarium and apparently dying, their terminally ill sister Himari was somehow revived by a Penguin hat that she had wished for. Now they're on an impossible mission, because the price of keeping Himari alive is to find a mysterious object called the Penguindrum, and they'll do anything to save their sister.

"As they travel separate paths in their search, they'll have to unravel complex riddles, make alliances with strangers they know they shouldn't trust, and question the very fabrics of time and destiny. In two spectacular feature films combining elements from the acclaimed TV series plus dazzling new scenes and characters, the Penguinture begins again."
