Angel Flores Becomes Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Winner in Guatemala

El Segundo, CA (September 12, 2012) – Guatemala City hosted Duelists from all over the Latin America region and from around the world as they all came to play the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) at the Parque de la Industria this past weekend. Duelists young and old participated in the Yu-Gi-Oh! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (YCS), hosted by Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. (Konami), attempting to be the latest to win the prestigious traveling event. Many Duelists challenged for the top prize but in the end, it was Mexico's Angel Flores that came forward to claim the coveted title of YCS Champion.

In a weekend full of Dueling, YCS Guatemala hosted enthusiastic Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG players wanting to try the latest strategies and combos using cards from the newly released Return of the Duelist booster. This allowed a brand new mix of Decks with never-before-seen tactics. Round after round, elite players were emerging above the competition. Consisting of skill, in-depth knowledge of the game, and a bit of luck, the top Duelists were pulling out all the stops to win their matches.

The Duels got more intense as Sunday's Preliminary Rounds were drawing to a close and the Final Round was in sight. At the end of the weekend, on Sunday afternoon, the final match consisted of Flores sitting across from David Chavarria from El Salvador at the Final table, each wanting to take home the title of Champion and a host of prizes.

Chavarria brought his Dino Rabbit Deck hoping he had what it took to take down Flores, but Flores countered with his HERO Deck knowing that it had played well all weekend. Both competitors played each other back and forth, showing guile and fervor for the game but in the end, it was Flores who was able to celebrate the win and be named YCS Champion. Flores won an Ultra Rare Digvorzhak, King of Heavy Industry YCS Prize Card, and an invitation to his 2013 World Championship Qualifier and additional extraordinary prizes.

Additionally, Flores also won a great prize pack from Konami that includes a Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Trophy, paid travel and accommodations to the winner's 2013 World Championship Qualifier Tournament, a 250GB gaming console, and a Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Top Cut Game Mat.

Additionally, on Saturday, Gabriel Canas from Guatemala won the Dragon Duel (for Duelists born 2000 or later) adeptly outplaying his Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG peers, earning a special Dragon Duel Champion's Medal, a 2013 Regional Game Mat, a Regional Deck Box, and an invitation to his region's 2013 Dragon Duel World Championship Qualifier, where he can receive an invitation to the second annual Dragon Duel World Championship, to be played at the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship in August 2013. On Sunday, Diego Diaz of Guatemala earned the same honors.

Every Saturday morning, Duelists can watch the all-new Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal animated series as well as classic Yu-Gi-Oh! episodes on TheCW4Kids programming block, the leading Saturday morning kids broadcast network in the United States.
