Sakura Wars, Twin Angel in Phantasy Star Portable 2i
posted on by Egan Loo
Sega announced on Monday that its Sakura Wars game franchise and Sammy's Kaitō Tenshi Twin Angel game franchise are collaborating on the upcoming Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity role-playing game (RPG). Weapons and costumes inspired by those of the Sakura Wars and Kaitō Tenshi Twin Angel 2 characters will be available as downloadable content for a fee. Sega had already announced that the RPG will feature collaborative content from the virtual idol Vocaloid Hatsune Miku, the characters of the Nico Nico Douga site, the new Evangelion anime films, the anime Gurren Lagann, and the Shining Hearts and Valkyria Chronicles 3 games. Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity will debut in Japan on February 24, 2011.
Red Company developed the first Sakura Wars game for Sega in 1996. The strategy role-playing game franchise follows the alternate-history adventures of several all-female mechanized task forces — that also perform musicals to maintain their top secret cover. NIS America, a subsidiary of the game company Nippon Ichi Software, adapted the Sakura Taisen V ~Saraba, Itoshiki Hito yo~ game as Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love, the first Sakura Wars game to be released in North America. There have also been many anime and manga adaptations over the years.
Kaitō Tenshi Twin Angel (not to be confused with Twin Angels) began as a magical girl pachisuro (pachinko-parlor slot machine) game with Yukari Tamura and Mamiko Noto as Haruka "Red Angel" Minazuki and Aoi "Blue Angel" Kannazuki. It already spawned a manga, a two-volume video anime series, and a new web anime. The Kaitō Tenshi Twin Angel 2 game shipped last year.
