On Thursday, MTV Splash Page posted an interview with Ethan Spaulding, a producer of Warner Bros. Animation's remake of the 1985-1990 ThunderCats animated series with Japan's Studio 4°C. In the interview, Spaulding addresses the franchise's origins in both the United States and Japan, as well as the updates that have been made and the elements that have not changed.

Todd Casey, a writer on the new project and a staff member on G.I. Joe: Resolute, Transformers: Animated, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, posted the official image above late Tuesday evening. The image depicts (from left to right) protagonists Cheetara, Tygra, Lion-O, and Panthro. In the original series, these four are aliens who have fled their home planet Thundera at its destruction. Their enemies, mutants from the planet Plun-Darr, track them to Third Earth in hopes of acquiring the Eye of Thundera, a power source embedded in Lion-O's Sword of Omens.

Studio 4°C's many projects include Tekkonkinkreet and Genius Party. The studio had previously worked with Warner Brothers on The Animatrix, Batman: Gotham Knight, and Halo Legends — three earlier Japanese-animated Warner Brothers projects based on American entertainment franchises.

The new ThunderCats series will run on the Cartoon Network in the United States.
