Appleseed: Ex Machina Director Aramaki Interviewed

posted on by Egan Loo
Differences between 2 Appleseed films, influences from other artists discussed

The Twitch website has posted an interview with Shinji Aramaki, a prolific mechanical designer (Mospeada, Megazone 23, Fullmetal Alchemist) and the director of both Appleseed films. In the interview, Aramaki explained the differences in the intended audiences and production values between the first Appleseed film and Appleseed: Ex Machina. He also described his working relationship with the original manga creator, Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell, Ghost Hound), and Hong Kong director/producer John Woo (A Better Tomorrow, The Killer). Finally, Aramaki discusses a particular directorial choice he made in Ex Machina and the influence of Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki on his work in particular and Japan in general.
