Romantic comedy about yuri-obsessed girl, cross-dressing sadistic boy

The Animate.tv video website has begun streaming the first anime episode based on Minari Endo's Maria Holic romantic comedy manga on Friday. Viewers are first required to register in Japanese and install the latest version of Windows Media Player, and the episode itself is in Japanese. The streaming will last until January 6 at noon, Japan Time.

The story centers on a sophomore named Kanako who enrolls in all-girls school — she has a phobia of men and wants to find her destined yuri partner. She meets a captivating freshman named Mariya who fits her criteria — except her seemingly ideal mate happens to be a cross-dressing sadistic boy.

Akiyuki Shinbo (Le Portrait de Petit Cossette, Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei) will direct off the scripts that will be supervised by Masahiro Yokotani (Reideen, World Destruction: Sekai Bokumetsu no Rokunin). The SHAFT-animated series will hold its television premiere on Japan's Chiba TV station on January 4 at 24:30 (effectively January 5 after midnight).
