Shimajirō no Wow! preschool series to feature new cat character, CG animation

The Benesse Corporation is collaborating with the Japanese television stations TV Setouchi and TV Tokyo to release the Shimajirō no Wow! anime, the newest Shimajirō television series aimed at preschoolers. The series is slated to premiere in April, and the Japanese rock duo Puffy (PuffyAmiYumi) will perform the ending theme song "Tomodachi no Wow!."

The sporty girl cat character Nyakkii will debut in the anime, and this series will be the first Shimajirō title to incorporate computer-graphics (CG) animation. Shimajirō no Wow! will replace the current Shimajirō Hesoka anime and mix animated and live-action segments, a feature which began with the Hakken Taiken Daisuki! Shimajirō sequel in 2008.

Shimajirō television series feature Benesse Corporation's characters created under the company's young child education brand Kodomo Challenge. Each episode follows young animal characters as they face the problems of real children and experience personal growth.

The original Shima Shima Tora no Shimajirou television anime aired in Japan from 1993 to 2008. The sequel Hakken Taiken Daisuki! Shimajirō aired from 2008 to 2010 and has continued under the new title Shimajirō Hesoka since April 2010.

Puffy is collaborating on the new series' theme song with the composer Takkyu Ishino (Eureka Seven). Puffy was featured in the American cartoon Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi and has also performed theme songs for anime such as Bunny Drop, SD Gundam Force, and Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.
