The website of director Kenji Kamiyama (Eden of the East, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) posted the first short trailer for Kamiyama's upcoming feature film, 009 RE:CYBORG, on Saturday. The trailer has the first preview of the cyborg hero Joe Shimamura ("009," as voiced by Mamoru Miyano) calling out his signature acceleration ability.
The film, which is Kamiyama's first in full-3D animation, adapts Shōtarō Ishinomori's classic science-fiction manga Cyborg 009. In the original manga, the secret Black Ghost organization transforms nine unsuspecting humans into cyborgs. However, the nine cyborgs turn on their masters and protect the rest of humanity from Black Ghost's plans for world war.
The film is slated to open in 2D and stereoscopic 3D theaters in Japan on October 27. The film will also open in more than five Asian regions simultaneously, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea.
Kamiyama is both directing and scripting the new film, and Production I.G and SANZIGEN Animation Studio are co-producing. Kamiyama already produced two 3D Pepsi Nex ads with Cyborg 009.
