Funimation Adds Home Video Rights for Kamisama Kiss Anime

Funimation simulcasted 13-episode series based on Julietta Suzuki's shōjo manga

North American anime distributor Funimation confirmed with ANN on Thursday that the company will release the Kamisama Hajimemashita (Kamisama Kiss) television anime series on home video. Funimation had posted a set of Valentine's Day cards on Thursday for the series that included the words "Coming Soon to DVD and Blu-ray!" Funimation could not confirm the details about the home video release.

The series adapts Julietta Suzuki's original shōjo manga, and follows Nanami (voiced by Suzuko Mimori), a girl who finds herself homeless after her father leaves. She comes to the home of a man (Akira Ishida) who offers to let her stay over — only to discover it is a Shinto shrine. The man happened to be a deity who has just transferred his status and his yōkai to Nanami. Akitarō Daichi (Fruits Basket, Kodocha, Now and Then, Here and There) directed the anime at TMS Entertainment (Detective Conan, Lupin III). Junko Yamanaka (Detective Conan, KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple) designed the characters.

Suzuki launched the manga in Hana to Yume in 2008, and Hakusensha will publish the 15th volume in Japan on February 20. Viz Media published the 12th volume (under the name Kamisama Kiss) in North America earlier this month.

Funimation previously streamed the 13-episode series as it aired.
