Artist of Texhnolyze, Haibane Renmei returns to convention in May

Anime Central announced on Wednesday that illustrator Yoshitoshi ABe (Serial Experiments Lain, Texhnolyze, Haibane Renmei) will attend the Chicago-area anime convention this May.

Anime Central will take place from May 16 to May 18 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare and the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois.

ABe previously attended Anime Central in 2001. His most recent convention appearance was in 2011 at Anime Weekend Atlanta.

In 1998, ABe made his anime debut as the original creator and character designer of the television series Serial Experiments Lain. His next anime, NieA_7, included his character designs and key animation. With Haibane Renmei he branched out to do the scripts and series composition for the show.

After designing characters for Texhnolyze in 2003, he collaborated with director Ryutaro Nakamura (Kino's Journey, Ghost Hound, Serial Experiments Lain) on the planned series Despera. ABe worked on the series with Nakamura until Nakamura passed away last June.

ABe also illustrated the novels Welcome to the NHK and All You Need Is Kill, the basis for the live-action American film Edge of Tomorrow. His current projects include the manga Ryoshka Ryoshka, and the novel Pachel no Daimajo (The Great Witch of Pachel).
