posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Shō Hayami, Sora Amamiya, Risa Taneda, Masane Tsukayama, Tesshō Genda, Goblin also star in spring anime

The official website for Ninja Slayer From Animation, the anime adaptation of the Ninja Slayer novel series announced the cast for the series on Friday.

Toshiyuki Morikawa as Ninja Slayer
Shō Hayami as Fujio Katakura/Dark Ninja
Chiwa Saito as Nancy Lee
Sora Amamiya as Koki Yamoto
Risa Taneda as Dragon Yukano
Masane Tsukayama as Laomoto Khan
Tesshō Genda as Clone Yakuza
Goblin as the Narrator

The cast will be reprising their roles from the novel's audio drama.

King Records lists the story for the anime:

Kenji Fujikido is a salaryman whose wife and child were killed in a ninja turf war. In a brush with his own death, Fujikido is possessed by an enigmatic ninja soul known as Naraku Ninja. Fujikido cheats death and becomes "Ninja Slayer" -a Grim Reaper destined to kill evil ninja, committed to a personal war of vengeance. Set in the dystopian underworld of Neo-Saitama, Ninja Slayer takes on Soukai Syndicate ninja in mortal combat.

Akira Amemiya will serve as series director, while Studio Trigger will animate the series. Boom Boom Satellites will perform the theme song, "Back in Black."

The story was originally posted piecemeal on Twitter by Japanese "translators" Yū Honda and Leika Sugi, allegedly translating the work of American authors "Bradley Bond and Philip Ninj@ Morzez." After the story grew in popularity, Enterbrain published the first Japanese-translated volume in print, Ninja Slayer: Neo Saitama in Flames, in September 2012. The story then inspired comic adaptations from Enterbrain and Kodansha (including Kōtarō Sekine's Ninja Slayer Kills in Shōnen Sirius), as well as an audio drama with Toshiyuki Morikawa as the title character.

The anime will premiere this spring.
