'Mayoi Neko Overrun,' 'Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father!' Novelist Tomohiro Matsu Passes Away at 43

Author also wrote other light novel series, staffed Comiket for years

Writer and light novel author Tomohiro Matsu passed away suddenly on Monday due to an unspecified sickness. He was 43.

The editorial department of Shueisha's DX Bunko label made the announcement on the label's official website on Tuesday.

Matsu is perhaps most well known for his Mayoi Neko Overrun! (Stray Cats Overrun!) and Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father! (Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai!) light novel series, both of which inspired television anime series. He published 12 volumes of the Mayoi Neko Overrun! novels from 2008 to 2012, and the anime premiered in 2010. He published 18 volumes of the Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father! novels from 2009 to 2015, and the anime premiered in 2012.

Matsu also published six volumes of his Otome 3 Gensoku novel series from 2012 to 2013. His Hatena Illusion novel series remains unfinished due to his death, with the most recent fourth volume released last November. His last published work was his Isekai Kazoku Hyōryūki Fushigi no Shima no Elza (Elsa of the Mysterious Island) novel on January 22.

Matsu is also credited with series composition and scripts for the Queen's Blade: The Exiled Virgin television anime series, as well as story concept cooperation on the Ixion Saga DT anime.

The official Twitter account of the Comic Market (Comiket) event also mourned Matsu's death, and shared details on the author's work as part of the event's Comic Market Preparatory Committee staff, which he joined when he was still a student. He remained a member even after his professional debut. He appeared in talk events at Comiket Special 5, Comiket Special 6, and last August's 88th Comiket, and also wrote for Comiket's 40th anniversary book.
