The official website for the television anime adaptation of Sōichirō Yamamoto's Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san (Takagi-san, the Master of Teasing) manga opened on Friday to reveal the show's January 2018 premiere. The site is also streaming the show's first promotional video.

In the above video, Nishikata swears he'll finally tease Takagi today, but she ends up teasing him instead by having him make a face that gets him in trouble with the teacher. As Nishikata sulks about being teased instead again, Takagi keeps trying to get his attention. Nishikata doesn't want to get yelled at again, so he refuses to look her way. When he does eventually turn to face her, she says "finally, you looked at me."

The site also revealed the show's staff and cast. Yuuki Kaji stars in the show as Nishikata, and Rie Takahashi co-stars as Takagi-san.

Hiroaki Akagi (Hina Logic - from Luck & Logic) is directing the series at Shinei Animation (Elegant Yokai Apartment Life, Doraemon). Michiko Yokote (RIN-NE, Genshiken, ReLIFE) is handling the series composition, and Aya Takano (Himouto! Umaruchan, Kimi no Koe o Todoketai, Polar Bear's Café) is designing the characters for animation. Takuji Mogi (And you thought there is never a girl online?) and Natsuko Kondou (animation director for Natsume's Book of Friends seasons 3 and 4, Durarara!!×2 Shō) are the chief animation directors.

The manga centers on Nishikata, a middle school student who has suffered humiliation due to being teased by Takagi, the girl who sits next to him. Since then, he has vowed to one day do the same to her and succeed in teasing her.

Yamamoto launched the manga in Gessan mini, the accompanying booklet to the main Gessan magazine, in 2013. After Yamamoto finished serializing his Fudatsuki no Kyōko-chan manga in Gessan in June 2016, Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san moved to Gessan in July. Shogakukan published the manga's sixth volume on August 10.

The manga topped a poll by Honya Club on bookstore employees' recommended manga for 2017 in February, and it was also nominated for this year's Manga Taisho award.
