Overlord and Goblin Slayer win runner-up awards.

Kadokawa Shoten's e-book publisher BookWalker announced the results of its yearly book awards on February 8. The results of the award are determined by a combination of user votes, sales ranking, and general reputation among the literary community.

This year's grand prize winner is Fuse's That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime novels and the corresponding manga adaptation by Taiki Kawakami. The light novel previously won BookWalker's light novel category award in the previous year.

Fuse launched the story serially on "Shōsetsuka ni Narō" website from 2013 to 2016. Micro Magazine began publishing the series in print in 2014, and it shipped the 13th volume on September 28. Taiki Kawakami launched the manga adaptation, which the television anime adaptation is based on, in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine in 2015. The anime premiered on October 1 last year.

Fuse left a comment on BookWalker's website in response to the award: "I received the BookWalker light novel award last year, and now I've received the grand prize this year. I am filled with deep emotion! I wrote That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime as something that I myself would find fun. If everyone who read the novel experienced the same kind of fun, that would be my greatest honor as an author. I will do my best to keep writing entertaining novels, so please lend me your support!"

Kawakami left an illustration with the message: "Thank you for the grand prize."

The runner-up awards went to Kugane Maruyama's Overlord and Kumo Kagyu's Goblin Slayer novel series. Fujita's Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku won the "girls' manga" award. NisiOisin's Monogatari series won the "literature" category, while Junichi Inoue's Where Does Your Money Go? (Kimi no okane wa doko ni kieru no ka) won the "non-fiction" category. Kazuhiro Fujita's Karakuri Circus manga series won the "completed classic" award.

The results of the Japanese BookWalker awards don't appear to stray too far from the tastes of users of the global version of the site. Overlord, Goblin Slayer, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime were all in the top 10 in the site's global store sales ranking.
