Fruits Basket Manga Gets 3 New Short Chapters Focusing on Mabudachi Trio

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
3 chapters about Hatori, Shigure, Ayame to launch in April, June, July

This year's ninth issue of Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine revealed on Friday that Natsuki Takaya will publish three new short chapters for her Fruits Basket manga in the magazine. The first chapter will ship in the magazine's combined 10th and 11th issues on April 20, the second chapter will ship in the 13th issue on June 5, and the third chapter will ship in the 15th issue on July 5. The three chapters will center on "The Mabudachi Trio" (Hatori, Shigure, and Ayame) from the original manga.

Takaya serialized the original Fruits Basket manga in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine from 1998-2006. Tokyopop released the manga in English from 2004 to 2009, and Yen Press re-released the manga in 12 updated omnibus volumes beginning in June 2016. The original manga inspired a television anime adaptation in 2001.

The manga's new anime adaptation will premiere in Japan on TV Tokyo on April 5 late at night at 1:23 a.m. (effectively April 6), before airing less than an hour later on both TV Osaka and TV Aichi. Funimation will stream the anime on FunimationNow. Funimation has also licensed the home video rights. Crunchyroll will also stream the series.

Takaya launched a sequel manga titled Fruits Basket Another on the free "HanaLaLa online" website in September 2015, but it moved to Hakusensha's Manga Park website and app in August 2017 along with the other HanaLaLa online manga. Takaya ended the manga last December but also plans to draw one-shots for the manga afterward. The third volume and final volume shipped on March 20 in Japan. Yen Press is also publishing the sequel manga.
