Tokyopop Germany Puts All DVD Releases on "Pause" (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
Rozen Maiden: Träumend DVDs cancelled as other distribution methods are considered

Tokyopop's Germany office announced on January 22 that it has temporarily "paused" future anime DVD releases in that country. That means that the Rozen Maiden: Träumend anime series, which Tokyopop Germany had previously announced, will not be released in that country. Tokyopop Germany did note that all other anime series it had previously released have already been finished. The Germany office cited the rapid rise in illegal downloads and the correlated drop in legal anime DVDs, despite the apparent huge interest in anime among young people. Tokyopop Germany is considering alternative distribution methods for anime, thus ensuring that DVDs are not the only option for its releases. For now Tokyopop Germany has decided to put all of its anime releases on hold while it decides its next step. Rozen Maiden: Träumend's North American home video release has been in limbo since Geneon Entertainment decided to cease sales and distribution of all titles last September.

AnimeOnDVD.com also reports that ADV DVDs in Germany have been put on hold, including Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor, Utawarerumono - Heldenlied, Perfect Girl, Venus Versus Virus, and Moonlight Mile.

Update: Added a note on Rozen Maiden: Träumend's status in North America.
