Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Panty and Stocking Announced by Manga (Updated)

posted on by Andrew Osmond

Jerome Mazandarani of Manga UK announced the following acquisitions at the MCM Birmingham Comic Con on Saturday March 31.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (right) will be released sometime in 2012 on DVD. The 12-part series is a fan-acclaimed dark reworking of the “magical girl” genre, in which 14 year-old Madoka Kaname is offered magic powers.

According to UK Anime Network's twitter feed, “Aniplex USA Blu-Ray exports of [Puella Magi] Madoka Magica means it is most likely not viable for a UK Blu-Ray release.”

The manic, cartoonish Studio Gainax comedy Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (left) has an unconfirmed release date sometime in 2012. Panty and Stocking are two girl angels who exterminate evil. UK Anime Network tweeted that, according to Mazandarani, “No foreign territories are allowed to release [the series] on Blu-Ray at this time.”

Ōkami-san & Her Seven Companions is due towards the end of 2012. It is based on Masashi Okita's romantic comedy light novel series about girls in a school “fixer” club; the story parodies fairy tales.

UK Anime Network also reported three other acquisitions by Manga Entertainment:

- The World God Only Knows (the first season will be released as a Complete Collection in late summer);

- the first season of Squid Girl;

- and Princess Resurrection, to be released as a complete series on August 20.

Following Manga's announcement of a screening (with guests) of Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos on June 8 at London's BFI Southbank, Manga has now confirmed a home release for Milos. Both the DVD and the Blu-ray will appear on September 3. There will also be a double-pack edition (DVD/Blu-ray), containing Milos together with the 2005 film, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie – Conqueror of Shamballa.

According to UK Anime Network's twitter feed, Manga said that its previously-announced release of Blue Exorcist season one will be released over two half-season sets, with the first on August 20 and the second on October 29. It will be subtitled only; Manga feel the series is “worth the risk” of not having a dub. It may re-release the series later on if a dub is created subsequently.

Update - More announcements added.
