Final Fantasy/Vampire Hunter D artist to appear at October 11-14 event to promote new artbook

The organizers of New York Comic Con announced on Friday that artist and illustrator Yoshitaka Amano will attend the event. The convention will be held at the Javits Convention Center from October 11-14.

Amano is most well known for his contributions to Vampire Hunter D and the Final Fantasy series, as well as his collaboration with English graphic novelist Neil Gaiman on Sandman: The Dream Hunters. Amano has been involved in more than 20 anime works and more than 30 video game titles throughout his career. He has been in the anime industry since he was 15, when he joined the veteran studio Tatsunoko Production. Among his first character design credits at Tatsunoko were Time Bokan, Hutch, the Honeybee, and Shinzō Ningen Casshan. He also created Yasai no Yōsei - N.Y. Salad, a television anime about the secret nocturnal life of vegetables in a New York kitchen, which inspired a 3D film in 2010.

Amano is currently working on Deva Zan, his first full-length 3D anime film with his Studio Devaloka. Amano previously attended Hawaii's Kawaii Kon in March.

Amano's appearance on Friday and Saturday at the event is in part to promote Dark Horse Comics' upcoming release of the The Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy art book on October 17. Dark Horse Comics also plans to release Amano's Deva Zan illustrated novel this Halloween.

New York Comic Con will also host voice actor Bryce Papenbrook (Blue Exorcist's Rin).
