MVM to Reissue Vampire Princess Miyu TV Series (Update 2)

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Release will be in second quarter of 2013 in one set.

MVM has tweeted that it will be reissuing the TV series Vampire Princess Miyu in the second quarter of 2013. The company later confirmed that the complete series would released as a single box-set. The company had previously released the series in six DVD volumes (the first of the old volumes is pictured right).

The company also tweeted that, "Far as I'm aware of it will be the same discs as the individual volumes we released years back."

The series revolves around the half-human, half-vampire girl named Miyu who is trapped in a body that will remain a teenager forever. Miyu, who can walk around in the daylight but must drink blood to survive, hunts down supernatural beings who would harm the human race and sends them back to the dark realms.

The TV show is based on Toshiki Hirano and Narumi Kakinouchi's 10-volume manga series. Hirano (Devil Lady, Angel Heart) also directed the TV series, with character designs by Megumi Kadonosono (Kiddy Grade, Clannad). Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers, Eden of the East) handled the music for the series.

Before the TV version (which was broadcast in Japan in 1997-8), there had been a previous Vampire Princess Miyu anime, which was released in Japan as a four-part OAV in 1988-9. This earlier version was released by Manga Entertainment on VHS video (now deleted). MVM commented that it was just releasing the TV series, "but we'll look into the OAV too."

Update - MVM has now confirmed it will be a single box-set release.
