posted on by Egan Loo

The December issue of Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Zero-Sum magazine is announcing on Monday that a television anime adaptation of Verno Mikawa's Strange+ manga has been green-lit. This will be the first of Mikawa's works to be animated.

The slapstick gag manga centers around a detective agency. The story begins with a teenaged boy named Kō who came to the slums to search for Takumi, his missing big brother who ran away years ago. The brothers reunite, and it turns out that Takumi now heads the Mikuni Detective Agency. Kō wants to bring Takumi back, but he doesn't want go back home himself. So, he starts working at the agency, doing odds and ends.

The manga's drama CD cast members will be reprising their respective roles for the anime:

Tomokazu Seki as Kō

Jun Fukuyama as Takumi

Ryotaro Okiayu as Masamune, a suave, macho staff member at the agency

Satsuki Yukino as Miwa, the agency's secretary whose weapon of choice is knives

Takashi Nishikawa (episode animation director on Naruto Shippūden) is overseeing, writing, and directing the anime at the studio Seven (Ai Mai Mi, Morita-san wa Mukuchi, Recorder and Randsell). Hiroyuki Furukawa (episode animation director on Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, Recorder and Randsell Re) is designing the characters.

Mikawa launched the manga in the inaugural issue of Zero-Sum in 2002, and has been drawing it ever since. Ichijinsha published the 13th compiled book volume of the manga in June. Spinoff chapters will run in the 36th issue of Zero-Sum Ward magazine on November 16 and on the Zero-Sum Online website on November 10 and December 10. Mikawa ran her Maka Maka manga in Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace and 4-Koma Nano Ace magazines from 2009 to 2011.
