Film with returning staff, cast to depict 3-way battle between Milky Holmes, Genius 4, Gentlemen Thief Empire

Bushiroad announced on Saturday that it is producing an anime film for the Tantei Opera Milky Holmes franchise. The Gekijōban Tantei Opera Milky Holmes: Gyakushū no Milky Holmes (Tantei Opera Milky Holmes the Movie: Milky Holmes' Counterattack) film will open in Japan in February 2016. The staff opened a website for the film on Saturday.

The film's staff and cast are returning from the previous anime series. Takaaki Kidani is the credited with the original concept and as the chief production supervisor. Hiroaki Sakurai is directing the film at J.C. Staff. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu is writing the script, and Seiya Numata is adapting Natsuki Tanihara and Yume Usahara's original character designs. Elements Garden is composing the music.

The film will star:

Suzuko Mimori as Sherlock Shellingford
Sora Tokui as Nero Yuzurisaki
Mikoi Sasaki as Hercule Barton
Izumi Kitta as Cordelia Glauca
Satomi Akesaka as Arsène/Henriette Mystère
Daisuke Kishio as Twenty/Kai Nijūri
Takuma Terashima as Stone River/Sōseki Ishinagare
Hiro Shimono as Rat/Jiro Nezu
Yoshino Nanjō as Kokoro Akechi
Ryoko Shintani as Hirano Hasegawa
Yukari Tamura as Saku Tooyama
Miyuki Sawashiro as Tsugiko Zenigata

The film will feature a three-way battle between The Gentlemen Thief Empire, the Genius 4, and the Milky Holmes groups. Just as the Milky Holmes group is settling down to relax at a hot spring after their study tour, an alarm goes off, because The Gentlemen Thief Empire intend to steal a treasure. The two groups start to battle for who gets to use the "Toys," when suddenly the Genius 4 rush to the scene.

Tickets for the film will go on sale on September 19, and will cost 1,500 yen (about US$12). Those who pre-order tickets will receive a clear file.

Japanese retail website Gamers! had listed a film adaptation in February, but quickly removed the listing.

The delayed fifth episode of the Tantei Kageki Milky Holmes TD anime series had teased a "mystery" in February for fans to solve. Tokyo MX, TV Kanagawa, Hokuriku Broadcasting, TV Aichi, and Sun TV all aired the Tantei Kageki Milky Holmes TD episode in different regions, and the episode's end card art showed a different pair of letters for each region. Rearranged vertically, the end cards' letters read "Milky Movie" (pictured at left). However, the anime's website reported after the episode that the end card for Hokuriku Broadcasting ("YE") was not the image that was planned to be unveiled.

The franchise has inspired four television anime series and three anime specials.
