The Monthly Bushiroad TV program debuted a teaser video for Gekijōban Tantei Opera Milky Holmes: Gyakushū no Milky Holmes (Detective Opera Milky Holmes the Movie: Milky Holmes' Counterattack) on Thursday. The film's website then began streaming the teaser, which features the theme song "Gekijō! Milky Daisakusen" (Passion! Major Milky Operation) by the title group:

The film will feature a three-way battle between The Gentlemen Thief Empire, the Genius 4, and the Milky Holmes groups. Just as the Milky Holmes group is settling down to relax at a hot spring after their study tour, an alarm goes off, because The Gentlemen Thief Empire intend to steal a treasure. The two groups start to battle for who gets to use the "Toys," when suddenly the Genius 4 rush to the scene.

The film's staff and cast are returning from the previous anime series. Takaaki Kidani is credited for the original concept and as the chief production supervisor at Bushiroad and Chronogear Creative, while Makoto Moriwaki is credited as chief director. Hiroaki Sakurai is directing the film at J.C. Staff. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu is writing the script, and Seiya Numata is adapting Natsuki Tanihara and Yume Usahara's original character designs. Elements Garden is composing the music.

The film will star:

Suzuko Mimori as Sherlock Shellingford

Mikoi Sasaki as Hercule Barton
Izumi Kitta as Cordelia Glauca
Satomi Akesaka as Arsène/Henriette Mystère
Daisuke Kishio as Twenty/Kai Nijūri

Hiro Shimono as Rat/Jiro Nezu
Yoshino Nanjō as Kokoro Akechi

Tickets for the film will go on sale on September 19, and will cost 1,500 yen (about US$12). Those who pre-order tickets will receive a clear file.

The franchise has inspired four television anime series and three anime specials.
