It's hard to fly high when the sun's in your eyes, but now you can take a style cue from Porco Rosso, the titular hero from the Ghibli movie of the same name.
Studio Ghibli and Washin Palette are collaborating to release replica Porco Rosso sunglasses in two models. The "authentic historical reproduction" version aims to recreate the sunglasses true to the 1920-1930s, when the movie is set. The glasses have platinum frames and glass lenses, and come inside a case made with Italian buttero leather. The bundled cleaning cloth is made with a buckskin chamois leather. It retails for 51,840 yen (about US$477) after tax.
For those who want something a little better suited for everyday wear, a "standard model" is also available that uses a titanium alloy for the frames, plastic lenses, and comes with nose pads and earpieces for comfort. It retails for 30,240 yen (about US$278) after tax.
