Pokemon's Decline Continues

posted on by Garry Berryhill
Pokémon's slides further down the slippery pop culture slope.

As reported last week, Pokémon has fallen off the Lycos Top 50, a listing of the most popular internet searches, for the first time since the list's inception. This ends nearly three years of dominance, including nearly a year and a half at the top spot.

ICv2 has an article on the status of Pokémon and goes on to speculate that the acquisition of the fourth and fifth Pokémon movies by Miramax is a sign of the property's weakness. Note that Warner Brothers, who owns the television license, released the first three films.

The Pokémon card games, comics, and television show seem to be surviving the passing of their brand dominance. Each is going strong.
