Sket Dance Song by French Kiss Ranks #2 on Weekly Chart (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
"Kakko Warui I Love You!" is AKB48 spinoff's 1st to sell 100,000+ in 1st week

"Kakko Warui I Love You!" — the opening theme song for the ongoing Sket Dance anime by the Japanese idol trio French Kiss, debuted at #2 on Oricon's CD singles sales chart for the May 9-15 week. The trio's third single sold 113,000 copies (rounded to the nearest thousand). French Kiss is a spinoff unit of the larger all-female idol group AKB48 with Asuka Kuramochi, Yuki Kashiwagi, and Aki Takajo.

The single is the first French Kiss release to sell over 100,000 copies in its first week, and the second single by an AKB48 spinoff unit to accomplish this feat (after the spinoff unit Not yet's "Shūmatsu Not yet" sold 160,000 copies in March). The second single from French Kiss, the Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu original video anime's theme song "if," sold 67,122 copies to also debut at #2 on the weekly chart in January. Since the sub-unit's first single, "Zutto Mae kara," debuted at #5 last September, all three French Kiss singles have appeared in the top 5.

French Kiss produced another song on some versions of the "Kakko Warui I Love You!" single, "Kimi Nara Daijōbu," as a song of support after the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster. The song's music video features 11 athletes, including Sydney gold-medal marathon runner Naoko Takahashi and Japan's national soccer team member Yasuyuki Konno.
