Yen Press Licenses Akame Ga Kill! Zero Manga
posted on by Karen Ressler
Yen Press announced on Thursday that it has licensed Takahiro and Kei Toru's Akame ga KILL! ZERO prequel manga.
The "dark action" manga takes place a few years before the events in Takahiro's original Akame ga KILL! manga series. The prequel centers on the title character Akame, a girl bought, brainwashed, and raised by the Empire as an assassin.
Takahiro and Toru launched the spinoff manga in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan in October 2013. The magazine announced in June that the manga was "approaching its climax." Takahiro is providing the story while Toru illustrates the manga. Square Enix published the manga's third volume on July 22.
Yen Press licensed and publishes Takahiro and Tetsuya Tashiro's original Akame ga KILL! manga in North America. The manga inspired a TV anime, which premiered in Japan in July 2014. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for home video. The anime began airing on Adult Swim's Toonami block starting on August 8.
