The official website for Yōjo Senki: Saga of Tanya the Evil, the television anime adaptation of author Carlo Zen and illustrator Shinobu Shinotsuki's Yōjo Senki (The Military Chronicles of a Little Girl) light novel series, began streaming a commercial on Thursday. The video previews the opening theme song "Jingo Jungle" by MYTH&ROID.
The website has also updated with a summary for the show's first episode and stills from the first episode. The story summary page lists 12 episodes for the series.
Aoi Yūki as Tanya Degurechov, the Imperial Military's aviation mage officer
Saori Hayami as Visha, the Imperial Military's aviation mage officer
Shinichiro Miki as Relgen, the Imperial Military General Staff Headquarters' service corps staff officer
Tesshō Genda as Ludeldorf, the Imperial Military General Staff Headquarters' tactical staff deputy director
Houchu Ohtsuka as Seetour, the Imperial Military General Staff Headquarters' service corps vice Chief of Staff
Yutaka Uemura (The Mystic Archives of Dantalian) is directing the anime as the first major project of the relatively new studio NUT. Yuji Hosogoe (Kiddy Grade) is adapting Shinobu Shinotsuki's original novel character designs for animation, and also serving as chief animation director with assistant director Kana Harufuji. Kenta Ihara (Ajin) is supervising and writing the series scripts, and Shūji Katayama (Overlord, Popin Q, Super Lovers 2) is composing the music. Yūki is also performing the anime's ending theme song "Los! Los! Los!".
The novel series centers on a young girl who fights on the frontlines in war. She has blonde hair, blue eyes, and nearly transparent white skin, and she flies through the air and mercilessly strikes down her opponents. Her name is Tanya Degurechov, and she speaks with a young girl's lisp and commands the army. Tanya used to be one of Japan's elite office workers, but because of a wrathful god, was reborn as a little girl. Tanya prioritizes optimization and career advancement above all, and she will become the most dangerous entity among the Imperial Army's mages.
The anime will premiere on AT-X on January 6 at 10:00 p.m. The series will also air on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, TV Aichi, and BS11. AbemaTV will stream the series in Japan.
Zen and Shinotsuki launched the novel series in 2013. Kadokawa's Enterbrain brand published the seventh novel on December 28. Chika Tojō (Code Geass: Oz the Reflection 02) is serializing a manga version in Kadokawa's Monthly Comp Ace magazine, and the first compiled book volume shipped on December 10.
