Kadokawa opened preregistration for a Yuki Yuna Is a Hero smartphone app game titled Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha de Aru: Han Yui no Kirameki (Yuki Yuna Is a Hero: Flower Braid's Sparkle). The game is slated to launch this spring for iOS and Android devices.
AltPlus and scopes are developing the game as the first smartphone game for the franchise. The game will include characters from the anime, novels, and manga. Original creator Takahiro and Nogi Wakaba wa Yūsha de Aru novel author Aoi Akashiro are working on the game's original story. Takahiro is also supervising BUNBUN's designs for game-original characters.
In the game's story, [Highlight white text to read spoilers for the television anime] Yūna and the other members of the Hero Club are participating in club activities when the Vertex invades. The transformation app should be no longer needed, but it reactivates and the heroes fight off the Vertex. Then, a young woman named Hinata appears before the heroes and says that this is a special world within the God Tree (Shinju). The Shinju is an assembly of gods, but something powerful has raised a revolt from within and laid waste to the area. The Vertex that just appeared were copies created by these rebellious gods. In order to defeat the rebellious gods, the player must assemble heroes from all different eras.
Those who preregister will receive Washio Sumi as a character in the game. The app is also hosting a preregistration campaign with in-game gifts as rewards for more preregistrations.
The 12-episode Yuki Yuna Is a Hero anime series premiered in October 2014, and Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Ponycan USA released the anime in three Blu-ray Disc/DVD combo packs in North America in 2015.
A second anime season is in production. Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha de Aru: Washio Sumi no Shō, which adapts Takahiro and illustrator BUNBUN's illustrated novel series Washio Sumi wa Yūsha de Aru (Washio Sumi is a Hero), is the first half (six episodes) of the secon season, and consists of three anime films. The first film will open on March 18, and it will screen alongside an anime adaptation of the Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha-bu Shozoku four-panel spinoff manga. The second film is subtitled "Tamashii" (Soul) and third film is subtitled "Yakusoku" (Promise). The second and third films will open on April 15 and July 8, respectively. The anime will then air on television after the theatrical screenings. The second television anime season will premiere in October.
Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha de Aru: Yūsha no Shō, the second half of the second season, is a direct sequel to the first season.
