Gintama's Shinji Takamatsu directs series at Zero-G

NBC Universal opened a website on Thursday for the television anime adaptation of Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka's Grand Blue Dreaming (Grand Blue) manga, revealing the show's first promotional video, visual, staff, and summer premiere.

The tagline on the visual on the anime's website reads "The sea is calling us."

Shinji Takamatsu (Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!, Gintama, Daily Lives of High School Boys) is serving as director, scriptwriter, and sound director at animation studio Zero-G (DIVE!!, Battery the Animation, Tsugumomo). Hideoki Kusama (Battery the Animation) is the character designer.

Kodansha Comics publishes the manga in English digitally, and it describes the story:

After moving out on his own to a seaside town, Iori Kitahara makes a college debut he never anticipated. A new chapter of his life unfolds, full of diving with beautiful girls and shenanigans with a gaggle of lovable bastards! Idiot-expert Kenji Inoue and au naturel authority Kimitake Yoshioka bring you a glorious college tale filled with booze-fueled antics!

Inoue and Yoshioka launched the manga in Good! Afternoon in April 2014. Kodansha published the manga's ninth volume last October. Kodansha will publish the 10th volume on March 7. The manga marks the first time Inoue is authoring an original manga work. The series has more than 2 million copies in print.

The manga was nominated in the Best General Manga category at Kodansha's 41st annual Manga Awards last year.
