Lupin III's Voice Cast Changed for 1st Time in 16 Years (Updated)

Lupin III, Jigen's voices retained; but Zenigata, Goemon, Fujiko changed in December special

The Mainichi Shimbun's Mantan Web site reported on Sunday that the voice cast for the venerable Lupin III anime franchise is changing for the first time in 16 years. The new cast is as follows:

Kouichi Yamadera as Inspector Zenigata
Daisuke Namikawa as Goemon Ishikawa
Miyuki Sawashiro as Fujiko Mine

However, Kanichi Kurita and Kiyoshi Kobayashi will retain their roles of Lupin III and Daisuke Jigen, respectively. The new cast will debut with the television special Chi no Kokuin ~Eien no Mermaid~ (Blood Seal ~Eternal Mermaid~) — the first in 22 months — in December.

The Japanese television network NTV confirmed with ANN that the recently revealed new Lupin III TV project will be a special which will air this fall during NTV's traditional "Friday Roadshow" timeslot for movies and specials, although the special has since been delayed. NTV had announced the new project with an advertisement on April 29 that said "new TV series"; NTV has been running an irregular series of two-hour television specials since 1989.

Update: The new special will air during NTV's "Friday Special Roadshow" timeslot on December 2 at 9:00 p.m. The last change in the voice cast happened in 1995, when Yasuo Yamada — the first voice actor for the title character — passed away. Thanks, Lupin the Third.
