Recently retired Namie Amuro performs current theme song

The official website for The One Piece franchise announced on Tuesday that the idol group V6 will perform the show's new opening theme song "Super Powers." The new opening theme will debut in the anime on October 7.

Yukinojō Mori wrote the lyrics to the song. Samuel Waermo, Stefan Ekstedt, and Didrik Thott composed the song, and Ekstedt and ha-j arranged the song.

V6 have previously performed theme songs for Fairy Tail and Inuyasha, and the live-action Gokusen and Kimi wa Pet television series. Group member Junichi Okada starred in the From Up On Poppy Hill and Tales from Earthsea anime films, and the live-action Library Wars franchise.

The One Piece anime entered the current "Whole Cake Island" arc with the 783rd episode in April 2017. Namie Amuro is performing the current opening theme song "Hope," which debuted last October. Amuro also performed the anime's 14th opening theme song "Fight Together." She retired from singing earlier this month.

One Piece is getting a new film in the franchise to commemorate the TV anime's 20th anniversary. The 14th film in the franchise is slated to open in Japan in summer 2019.
