Vinland Saga Anime's New Promo Video Previews Aimer's Ending Song

posted on by Egan Loo
1st 3 episodes to premiere on NHK on July 7

The official website for the television anime of Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga manga began streaming the anime's fourth promotional video on Sunday. The video previews the anime's ending theme song "Torches" by Aimer.

The show will premiere with the first three episodes on July 7 at 24:10 (effectively, July 8 at 12:10 a.m.) on the NHK General channel, except in the Kansai area, where it will start at 24:45 (12:45 a.m.). The anime will also stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video both in Japan and overseas, with the first episode streaming in Japan early on July 6 at 24:00 (July 7 at 12:00 a.m.). The second episode will premiere on Amazon in Japan on July 8 at 1:40 a.m. and the third episode will premiere on July 8 at 2:10 a.m. The show will run for 24 episodes.

Shūhei Yabuta (Inuyashiki Last Hero director, Attack on Titan 3D director) is directing the anime at Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, The Ancient Magus' Bride). Hiroshi Seko (Banana Fish, Ajin: Demi-Human) is supervising the series scripts and writing them with Kenta Ihara (Saga of Tanya the Evil). Takahiko Abiru (Hunter × Hunter animation director) is designing the characters. Bamboo is in charge of the art, and MAD BOX is in charge of special effects. Yutaka Yamada (Tokyo Ghoul, Donten ni Warau Gaiden: Ketsubetsu, Yamainu no Chikai) is composing the music. Survive Said the Prophet is performing the anime's opening theme song "MUKANJYO."

Kodansha Comics began publishing the series in North America in 2013, and it describes the story:

Thorfinn is son to one of the Vikings' greatest warriors, but when his father is killed in battle by the mercenary leader Askeladd, he swears to have his revenge. Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band in order to challenge him to a duel, and ends up caught in the middle of a war for the crown of England. From the creator of the classic Planetes manga comes this epic, highly-anticipated tale.

Yukimura launched the series in Japan in 2005.
