Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk/Shiseido Ads

posted on by Gia Manry
Crossover ads featuring Inoue's Slam Dunk and Shiseido cosmetics

Slam Dunk is a heftier brand in Japan than it is in the U.S., and as such, it's been used to endorse products other than itself over the years-- and so has its creator, Takehiko Inoue, who also draws such titles as Vagabond, REAL, and commercials for cosmetics company Shiseido. Here's a Slam Dunk-themed ad from 1998 for the Aleph line of men's cosmetics (styling gel, "cool body water", and men's oil-blotting paper), featuring art supposedly by Inoue himself:

Inoue also drew these ads ad for Shiseido's UNO, a men's hair-care line that still exists (unlike Aleph, it seems), in 2004-2005:

The connection between basketball and cosmetics isn't particularly clear, but it's worth sitting through the ad parts for the art parts-- especially if you like Inoue's style.
