Climb Inside the Cockpit of Japan's Other Giant Gundam

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The 18-meter-tall (59-foot-tall) Gundam statue on Tokyo's Odaiba island gets all the glory. But did you know there's a version of the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam standing in Okayama?

While only measuring roughly half the height of its anime counterpart at seven-meters tall (23 feet), the Zeta Gundam offers an experience fans can't get over on Odaiba. You can climb inside the cockpit! Aspiring pilots just need to make a pit-stop at the Kume no Sato michi no eki (street station) in Tsuyama, Okayama where craftsman Shoichi Nakamoto is housing the Gundam.

Nakamoto built the Gundam entirely on his own and even had the foresight to make the limbs movable when supplied with electricity. Kume no Sato is celebrating its 15th anniversary so staff got together and brought ladders so visitors can climb in the usually unreachable cockpit. The “Sit in the Mobile Suit Experience” will be available for one day only on Sunday, April 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. JST.
