Ikebukuro's Princess Cafe Goes Manly With Space Adventure Cobra Collaboration

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

When someone hears of a place called "Princess Cafe," a manly anime such as Space Adventure Cobra is not likely to be the first work to come to mind as a candidate for a collaboration. Nevertheless, it is happening, as Twitter user @cado033 recently discovered.

The Twitter user said on Thursday that they were planning to go with a friend to a cafe in the Ikebukuro district of Tokyo on Friday. Ikebukuro is known for catering to women, and it is famous for Otome Road, a shopping area targeted at female otaku. Princess Cafe, a national chain in Japan, has a branch in Ikebukuro, and that is where the collaboration with Space Adventure Cobra is taking place.

@cado033 heard about the collaboration and decided to look into it. They seem to have doubts about the quality of the seemingly testosterone-infused collaboration offerings at such a girly location.

The collaboration launched on September 30, and it is running until November 7. The menu includes themed foods such as curry and pancakes. The drinks menu is offering coffee, fruity mixed drinks, and alcoholic beverages. People who order from the collaboration menu will receive one of nine coasters.

Collaboration goods that the cafe is selling include acrylic key holders, tin badges, acrylic stands, and clear files. People who spend at least 2,000 yen (about US$18) on food, drinks, or merchandise can enter for a chance to win a large character cutout. In addition, everyone who spends at least 1,500 yen (US$13) will receive one of nine postcards. People who collect all nine postcards will receive another special postcard.

Princess Cafe's Ikebukuro branch is also currently running collaborations with The Reflection, Kyūketsuki Sugu Shinu (The Vampire Dies in No Time), and Fullmetal Alchemist.
