New York Magazine Previews Tokyopop's "99 Roses"

Jo Chen's manhua short story first ran in Taiwanese magazine in 1999

The Comics Page section of this week's New York Magazine features Jo Chen's complete 24-page manhua short story "99 Roses." A Taiwanese magazine first published the story in 1999. Chen grew up in Taiwan but now lives in the United States, where she has drawn covers and other artwork for Runaways, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Season 8, and other comics. Earlier, in the late 1990s, she created dōjinshi and original comics that were only published in Taiwan. Tokyopop has recently commissioned an English translation of one of the comics, The Other Side of the Mirror. The first of its two volumes is now available with "99 Roses" as an included bonus story.

This is the first time that the Comics Page has previewed a manga or manga-influenced comic since July of last year, when it ran an excerpt from Adachitoka and Tadashi Kawashima's Alive manga.
