Both Gantz Films to Be Screened at San Francisco

Also at New People theater in August: dubbed Haruhi film

The live-action Gantz films, the Haruhi Suzumiya film, and the Rurouni Kenshin anime are among the screenings at San Francisco's Viz Cinema this month. The theater is in the New People complex in the Japantown neighborhood at 1746 Post Street (map and directions here).

The screenings include:

August 19, 7:00 p.m. The live-action version of Taiyo Matsumoto's Ping Pong manga, directed by Fumihiko Sori (Vexille, 2001 Nights). Admission is free, but visitors can donate to Earth Day Tokyo Tower, which sends volunteers into the tsunami-hit areas of Japan.

August 26, 7:00 p.m. The first live-action Gantz film, directed by Shinsuke Satō. The screening celebrates the launch of the film on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Tickets are US$10; "combo" options are also available with a copy of the DVD and Blu-ray Disc, plus a poster.

August 27, 2:15 p.m. The videoanime Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal (Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal), directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi. Tickets are US$8.

August 27, 11:15 a.m. (and repeated on August 28, 3.30 p.m.) The second live-action Gantz film (Gantz: Perfect Answer), directed by Shinsuke Satō, with English subtitles. Tickets are US$12.

August 28, 1:00 p.m. The American premiere of to be continued, a documentary about the AKB48 idol group. Tickets are US$12.

August 28, 6:00 p.m. The American theatrical premiere of the English dub of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. Tickets are US$10.
