Discotek Adds Hurricane Polymar Original Video Anime
posted on by Egan Loo
The North American anime distributor Discotek Media announced on Sunday that it will release the 1996 Hurricane Polymar original video anime on DVD with English subtitles and dub. The two-volume project remakes Tatsunoko's classic 1974 television action hero anime series of the same name. The story centers around Takeshi, a young man who dons the Polymar suit to gain superhero powers and fight an evil force.
Akiyuki Shinbo directed this anime before gaining fame on Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Bakemonogatari, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Hideki Kakinuma (Gall Force - Eternal Story, Casshan: Robot Hunter Casshern, Armitage: Dual-Matrix, Junk Force) wrote the scripts, and Yasuomi Umetsu (Kite, Ki*Me*Ra, Megazone 23 Part II) designed the characters after working on two other remakes of Tatsunoko shows: Gatchaman and Casshan: Robot Hunter Casshern.
Urban Vision previously released the dub of the anime in North America.
Update: More information added. New Generation Pictures produced the translation and subtitles for the anime, but not the dub.
