December 26 release marked with heartwrenching Christmas ad about farewells

Square Enix marks the December 26 Japanese release of its Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster set with this Christmas commercial called "Parting in This World." (Unlike the West, Japan celebrates Christmas as a holiday for couples on dates.)

The narrator says, "The world is full of partings and farewells. So I'd want to cherish someone who is next to me now." The commercial describes Final Fantasy X|X-2 as "Final Fantasy's most heartwrenching story."

A longer, one-minute version of the commercial is debuting on YouTube at midnight on Christmas. It adds, "We are destined someday to be separated from the ones we hold most precious."

Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD, a high-definition remaster of Square Enix's Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 role-playing games, will arrive on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in the United States on March 18, and then in Europe on March 21. Those who pre-order the game in Europe and North America will receive a limited-edition artbook.

The collector's edition from the Square Enix Online Store will include a 40-page hardcover artbook that includes concept sketches, environment art, and the characters in the world of Spira. Additionally, the art from Final Fantasy X-2 will include images of the three main characters in all of their Dresspheres. The edition will also include a Blu-ray music disc that includes more than six hours of music set to images from the game. The collection will include five lithographs.

Update: The longer one-minute commercial was made private, but it is scheduled to return on Christmas after 24:40 (Christmas Eve on 10:40 a.m. EST).
