Nintendo Looking to Smartphones for Game 'Awareness'

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said on Friday that the company will be looking at the smartphone market as a way to raise consumer awareness of the company's titles, not necessarily as another game platform.

"The spread of smart devices does not spell the end of game consoles. It's not that simple,” Iwata said, "The key is to figure out a way to use smartphones to make people aware of Nintendo's games, and encourage them to try out the console version of the games. It doesn't mean that we should put Mario on smartphones.”

Iwata previously announced the company is considering a "new business structure" that could incorporate smartphones.

Nintendo recently cut its sales projections by two-thirds for the fiscal year after poor Wii U console sales. The company's stocks dropped over 15 percent.
