Live-Action Hibi Rock Film's Trailer Previews Theme Song

Unsatisfied 'Rock idiot,' 'savage idol' team up in film to premiere on November 22

The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Katsumasa Enokiya's Hibi Rock (Days Rock) manga began streaming a trailer on Thursday. The video features Bakudan Johnny's theme song "Owari Naki Gogo no Bōkensha" (Adventureres of the Endless Afternoon).

In the film's story, good-for-nothing rocker Takurō Hibinuma (played by Shūhei Nomura) has no money, bath, or girlfriend. He forms The Rock 'n' Roll Brothers band with his friends. One night as they are performing live, a woman like a typhoon appears. Her name is Saki Utagawa (Fumi Nikaidō). She is a charismatic and popular digital top idol who performs with a unique style.

Takurō has as much freedom as anyone but isn't popular, while Saki performs as a top idol but suffers because she can't do the music she wants. They each possess what the other lacks. One day, Saki gives Takurō a request. She says, "Please, write me a song. There's no more time for me." And so, the fates of the "strongest rock idiot in history" and the "savage idol" become one.

Yū Irie is helming the project that will open in theaters in Japan on November 22. Eight music artists are serving as staff for the film, including guitarist Junji Ishiwatari (SUPERCAR, chatmonchy, 9mm Parabellum Bullet) who will produce the film's soundtrack.

9mm Parabellum Bullet's Yoshimitsu Taki, bands Bakudan Johnny, Hosomino Shyboy, and Wasureranneyo will each compose a song for the film. Vocaloid producer DECO*27 will produce two songs with actress Fumi Nikaidō (Lesson of the Evil, Himizu) who plays Saki in the film. Band The SALOVERS will provide the music for the film's underground band Inu Rape, and visual kei band Misaruka will perform music for rival band Langoliers.

The original manga revolves around Takurō Hibinuma, a third-year in high school. He is a boy who gets bullied, and has no talent in studying or sports, but the only thing he can call his own is "rock." He experiences many things through music, and aims to become a rock star.

Enokiya began his series in 2010, and the manga will resume this fall with the story's sixth and final arc. The manga received a nomination for the 5th Manga Taisho awards in 2011. Shueisha shipped the fifth compiled volume in Japan in December.
