Prisma Illya Anime Film Tops Mini-Theater Rankings in Japan

Gekijōban Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya: Sekka no Chikai (Movie Version Fate/kaleid liner Prisma ☆ Illya: Oath Under the Snow), the anime film in the Prisma Illya franchise, debuted at #1 on the mini-theater ranking in Japan during the August 26-27 weekend. The Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! original video anime (OVA) debuted at #4 on the mini-theater ranking.
The film opened in Japan on Saturday.
Shin Oonuma (No-Rin, WATAMOTE) returned to direct the film at SILVER LINK, and Hayato Kaneko (Dusk maiden of Amnesia, No-Rin) again served as producer. Kenji Inoue (Baka to Test to Shōkanjū) and Hazuki Minase (C³) returned to write the script, and Kazuya Hirata returned as the character designer. Tatsuya Katou (Love Live! Sunshine!!, SukaSuka) and TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND composed the music at Lantis. Kadokawa Animation is distributing the film.
Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!!, the fourth television anime based on Hiroshi Hiroyama's Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya manga, ended in September with the film's announcement. The first television anime premiered in 2013, followed by the second in 2014 and the third in 2015. Crunchyroll streamed all four series as they aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the first three series for home video release in North America.
The Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! OAV, subtitled "Ai to Seishun no Sotsugyō!" (The Graduation of Love and Youth), is screening in eight Japanese theaters from August 26 to September 15. The anime is listed as the "series concluding chapter."
Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! and Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! LOVE! director Shinji Takamatsu is the OVA's director, storyboarder, producer, and sound director. Scriptwriter Michiko Yokote also returned for the OVA, as did animation studio Studio Comet. yamazo composed the music. The OVA is listed at 24 minutes in length.
The first Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! television anime season premiered in Japan in January 2015. Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Viewster streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Ponycan USA released the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc combo packs. The second anime, Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! LOVE!, premiered in Japan in July 2016. Funimation and Crunchyroll both streamed the series as it aired in Japan.
The third and final episode of The Ancient Magus' Bride: Those Awaiting a Star (Mahō Tsukai no Yome: Hoshi Matsu Hito) prequel OVA series fell from the mini-theater ranking chart in the August 26-27 weekend, the anime's second weekend in theaters (Kogyo Tsushin's mini-theater chart only lists the top 5 films each week). The film topped the mini-theater ranking in its first weekend.
