Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust Blu-ray/DVD Released May 28

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Standard Blu-ray and DVD editions will follow later

Anime Limited has announced that the film Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust will be released on May 28 as a Collectors Blu-ray/DVD. There will also be standard Blu-ray and DVD editions, to be released later.

The Blu-ray/DVD edition will initially be exclusive to the AllTheAnime.com web shop (unlike the later standard editions). It will have a a rigid box and a 'crucifix-adorned digipak,' as well as further artwork beneath those two discs.

The audio options are English-only - there is a choice of English 5.1 and English stereo audio options. Extras include a behind the scenes featurette, storyboards, an art gallery, three art cards and a sixteen-page booklet.

Directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll, Wicked City), the 2000 film is the second Vampire Hunter D anime after the 1985 original video anime (OVA). Both adapt Hideyuki Kikuchi's supernatural novel series of the same name.

Anime Limited describes the film as follows: 'The enigmatic Vampire Hunter – known only as D – has been hired to track down Meier Link, a notoriously powerful vampire who has abducted a human woman named Charlotte Elbourne. D's orders are strict – find Charlotte, at any cost.

'For the first time D faces serious competition. The Markus Brothers, a family of Vampire Hunters, have been hired for the same bounty. D must intercept Meier and conquer hostile forces on all sides in a deadly race against time.

'Despised by Vampires for his profession and by Humans for the blood in his veins, D relentlessly pursues his prey, little expecting where his journey will ultimately take him, as long-buried secrets resurface once more.'
