Webtoon Service Ends Daily Pass Feature

WEBTOON has recently quietly discontinued its popular Daily Pass feature. Readers recently noticed that episodes (chapters) previously available through Daily Pass now require coins or sometimes viewing ads to unlock. Episodes from series that were previously available through Daily Pass now cost three coins each.
Introduced in 2020, the Daily Pass feature allowed users to unlock one episode per day from completed series, with access lasting 14 days. The feature expanded to some ongoing titles in 2022. The feature was widely used to sample series without spending coins.
Ad Passes remain available for some series, but episodes unlocked that way expire after three days. Fast Pass continues to offer early access to new chapters without expiration, but requires coins to unlock.
ANN reached out to WEBTOON Entertainment to ask why the Daily Pass feature was removed, and received a reply with the same message as a "Notice to Users" that users within the app can access:
"WEBTOON will no longer offer the Daily Pass feature as of 5/29.We're expanding new ways to access episodes of entire series. Readers now have two ways to enjoy their favorite titles beyond Fast Pass: Watch ads to unlock select episodes for free, or use Coins to unlock entire series at once.
No more waiting until the next day to read the next episode. Our paid experiences continue to support the work of our valued creators, and we thank our readers for their continued support."
